OC- Shimmergloom
Basically moving over a slightly improved version of my FiM OC.
Name: Shimmergloom
Gender: Male
Species: Pegasus
Approximate age: 19
Picture and/or Description: Shimmergloom is an indigo pegasus with a dull green mane that is never neat or tidy, as he never brushes it after flying. His eyes are a bright emerald green even in the dark. His build is athletic but thin due to passion for flight.
Background: The child of a pegasus father and a unicorn mother, Shimmergloom was given his name by his mother. Shimmergloom’s father worked in the weather facility in Cloudsdale, his mother in clinic in Ponyville, with one or both often working overtime to earn extra bits for the family. When they were around Shimmergloom always felt more comfortable around his mother than his father. The reason for this being that he felt that his father was pressuring him to be a perfect factory worker, something Shimmergloom had no desire to be, he always wanted to be one of the lucky pegasi tasked with maintaining the weather around Equestria. Sadly, he was a terribly weak flyer and he seemed doomed to be stuck as a worker in the weather factory. Due to his lack of contact with his parents Shimmergloom poured himself into making friends and spending as much time as he could with them. He would often try to befriend the ponies that seemed especially lonely, as he once knew the feeling when the other pegasi mocked his odd name, calling him more unicorn than pegasus. It was one such pony that taught Shimmergloom to be a proficient flyer. Ever since then, Shimmergloom has valued flying as a privilege greater than any other he has. After learning how to properly fly Shimmergloom successfully became a weather control pony, often working at night. Due to the rigors of his profession and his love of flying (in equal measure) his flight related abilities are very strong. While not as fast or as agile as some pegasi, his endurance is remarkable. He has traveled around a few areas of Equestria, and has recently moved near Ponyville.
Personality: Shimmergloom is a kindhearted pony that almost always manages to see the bright side of things, even when it looks like there isn't one. however if somepony threatens or insults his friends, he will often respond in a swift and harsh manner. Due to his preference of night time weather manipulation, his days are often spent sleeping during periods of work. He has a love for flying even more than most Pegasi, and is often seen hovering a few feet off the ground, when walking or standing would be equally, if not more, effective and efficient. Shimmergloom tried to be concise and to the pint, but loves to talk, and will more often than not add more information than is really needed to any response he gives. He values looks little and physical possessions less, instead measuring the value of a ponies worth by their connections with others.
Cutie Mark: Shimmergloom’s Cutie Mark is a crescent moon in front of a multicolored, swirling background that could almost be described as psychedelic. Shimmergloom got his cutie mark the night after he learned to properly fly, staying up late after he was supposed to be in bed. Looking out the window at the moon, wishing his parents would allowing him to fly among the stars, he was surprised to see a rainbow form in the darkness. The soft shades of the rainbow caused by the low lighting of the moon astounded Shimmergloom. Some night shift weather patrol pegasi were quick to clean up the unscheduled weather, but it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he never forgot it. Shimmergloom immediately resolved that he would devote himself to recreating a night time rainbow, so he could show others how beautiful hey could be. He went to bed not realizing he had gotten his cutie mark, and didn’t find out until the next morning when one of his friends pointed it out to him. At first Shimmergloom believed that his cutie mark indicated a special talent for creating beautiful weather events in the darkness of night, which he is doubtlessly good at. However, he has recently come to understand that his cutie mark is indicative of a talent for finding beauty in unlikely places; be it a pony, time, or place.
