Background: Fluttershy was born in Cloudsdale to two renowned pegasi in the field of weather manipulation. Her mother worked in the weather factory researching production methods for clouds, snowflakes, rainbows, and the like, while her father worked helping to deliver what was produced in the factories to cities around Equestria. As such, her father was often away for days at a time completing deliveries.

Her mother quickly learned that Fluttershy was a very timid filly, and made an effort to nurture the young filly's interests in as kind of a way as possible. Fluttershy's father, however, continued to hope that the shy pegasus would eventually grow out of her shell and into the "legacy of strong fliers" that she descended from. He believed that boisterous support and challenging his daughter would help her to grow.

Unfortunately, young Fluttershy struggled when it came to flight, and was held back at flight camp for it. She was teased mercilessly for her gangly appearance and weak flying skills, which caused her to only retreat further into her shell of timidness. When asked about flight camp by her parents, she would often remain silent, ashamed of the fact her answers would not live up to her father's expectations.

Overwhelming shyness left Fluttershy feeling alone and helpless when being teased, until one fateful day a young rainbow-maned pegasus filly defended her. Rainbow Dash, as the filly was called, raced the bullies in an attempt to restore Fluttershy's honor. In doing so, she knocked Fluttershy off of a cloud, and to the ground.

On the ground, Fluttershy felt more at home than she had ever felt in Cloudsdale. The birds, squirrels, and all of the little critters were kind to the young filly, and she got along well with them, seemingly being able to speak to and understand them.

While exploring this new place full of so many wonderful new things, a sonic rainboom went off in the sky, frightening Fluttershy's new friends. The timid pegasus went out of her way to comfort her new friends, and not only proved how kindhearted she was, but proved just how effective her skill in caring for animals was. This skill ended up being her special talent.

Discovering her special talent renewed some confidence in Fluttershy, and after some struggling, she managed to get through flight camp that very same year. Riding on that wave of confidence given to her by finding her calling in life, she spoke to her parents about the joys that the ground and the animals that lived there brought her, and told them that she planned on leaving Cloudsdale to follow her true calling.

Her mother supported her actions, and although disappointed, her father did as well. When the time came, they helped her to move from Cloudsdale to the small town of Ponyville, where Fluttershy has made her home ever since caring for animals in her quiet cottage on the outskirts of town.

Fluttershy was content with minimal pony interaction, as long as she was able to take care of her animal friends. Many simply knew her as the timid yellow pegasus who lived a little ways outside of town - the one who cared for all of the animals.

It wasn't until Twilight Sparkle came to Ponyville that things began changing for Fluttershy. Things began as usual, with Fluttershy's timid nature taking over when approached by Twilight. It wasn't until she noticed Twilight Sparkle's baby dragon, Spike, that she began talking a bit more openly.

After the disappearance of Princess Celestia, Fluttershy was brought along on a crazy adventure to defeat Nightmare Moon. Fluttershy not only interacted with five ponies she wasn't familiar with, but helped to defeat the mare of darkness as the Element of Kindness, and gained a group of wonderful friends.

Since then, Fluttershy has broken out of her shell, still maintaining her shy, timid personality, but also managing much more social interaction, with her new best friends and many other ponies. Over time she has become a bit more assertive, and able to stand her ground on some issues with a little help from her friends.

Although the quiet one in her group of friends, Fluttershy would do anything to help her friends, for they mean the world to her. If there is one thing Fluttershy won't tolerate, it's when ponies are being mean or cruel to her loved ones. During those times, she sheds her timid and shy nature and is able to stand up to even her greatest fears. There isn't anything Fluttershy would change about her life now, and she can hardly remember how she got by without her friends by her side.

Personality: If you were to ask most anypony, they would say that Fluttershy is one of the quietest ponies you will ever meet, and that is, without a doubt, very true. Fluttershy is a timid pony of few words, with a kind heart and gentle smile that can make anypony feel at home. She often shows compassion and understanding where other ponies cannot fathom of doing so, and believes that "sometimes, we all need to be shown a little kindness".

Fear is a common emotion in Fluttershy's life, and can often lead her to freeze up, whether in flight, or simply trying to walk up a hill. That fear tends to dictate her actions, and can prove frustrating for her friends to deal with at times. Fluttershy is fiercely protective of those she loves, though, and them being in danger overrides her own fear any day. Most would not expect it, but when her loved ones are in danger, she has the bravery to stare down even her greatest fear: a full-grown dragon.

Occasionally, Fluttershy's attempts at "remedying" her shyness, or rare bouts of frustration can lead to uncharacteristic outbursts, but her friends are usually able to ground her when she goes down that road.

Cutie Mark: Three cyan and pink butterflies, received when she discovered her talent of caring for animals after falling from Cloudsdale to the ground. She has an uncanny ability to speak and understand animals, and cares for them accordingly.

Other: She has a bunny named Angel that seems to keep in line more often than not.

Great work so far here, sugar cube! Love how you built up her parents and her time in Cloudsdale. Though I would like to see some more meat on the cutie mark side of things and her time getting to know Twilight. Write as if we don't know anything about the show. Just want to make sure you have what it takes to capture what it is like to be inside Fluttershy's head.

Better maybe? I added more to her background regarding both her cutie mark and meeting Twilight. Let me know if there's anything I can do to improve it! This is my first time submitting a CC, after all.
