Name: Starshine

Gender: Male

Species: Unicorn

Approximate age: 26 pony years

Picture and/or Description: He is blue, with a dark blue and bright blue colored mane and tail. He likes to wear his white wide-brimmed hat with a red feather for flair and to keep the sun out of his eyes. Sometimes he has an accompanying outfit, depending on the situation.


Background: Starshine came from a suburb of Manehattan. His family ran a bookstore, and Starshine would spend days reading stories about adventures, from Daring Do to tales of real archeologists. One day he started reading a book about pranks to pull with magic, and he quickly was able to pull of many of those pranks quickly, and he was even better at it at night. Within a week his cutie mark appeared. His family and close friends had a party to celebrate, and his family in Canterlot sent him a white, wide-brimmed hat that he came to love to the point he created his own spells to protect it, repair it, and keep it clean and tidy. He also learned he could conjure temporary copies of any clothing he tried on. The tales of adventure eventually led him to wanting to leave the city and see the world beyond, so he set out on a journey to learn all he could and find real adventure. Since setting out he hasn't spoken much with his family, though it's really just because it's hard to when away from towns a lot.

Once he started being able to use his magic, he started showing his friends and fun was had by all. Eventually though, he started letting it go to his head and he hurt one of his friends and he almost lost all of his friends afterward (he doesn't like to talk about it), so he began hiding and practising alone, which is another reason why he wanted to leave Manehattan. This is why he tries to be modest about his talents, but sometimes he can't help but show off if pushed or challenged.

After realizing his talent for various minor magical abilities, he set out from home in search of ways to better his magic and himself. He has been to nearly every part of Equestria and several unknown areas. His magic has improved much, but he has a lot of difficulty with intermediate difficulty spells, let alone advanced ones. He is (ideally) beginning the next part of his adventures in Ponyville after learning about the Elements of Harmony, Nightmare Moon, and Discord from Twilight Sparkle.
He has only just met Twilight after asking around Ponyville, which he was led to by rumors around all Equestria about the return of Nightmare Moon and Discord. He only knows her as an acquaintance and wouldn't consider her more than a teacher of sorts, though he doesn't talk to her often except when seeing about borrowing a book from time to time.


Personality: Starshine tries to be as polite and formal as possible when meeting new ponies, but can quickly slip into something more casual in an instant once he has determined what kind of pony he's talking to. He always wants to help others, though sometimes can't figure out how. He also loves magic and learning, and can talk for more than anypony would like unless made to stop. He tries to be modest, but if his abilities are challenged, he can be quite arrogant, which is why he prefers to avoid confrontation in public. When exploring though, he can almost seem playful and oblivious to danger, even when it's coming right at him, mostly because it's more fun to explore with traps than walk around dark places with nothing to do, at least in his mind.

Cutie Mark: Several small white dots in the shape of a wand with a large star at the end of stick. His talent is magic and is at a level just above Trixie's. He can do several simple spells without much issue, and he can do some intermediate level spells, like a minor bubble shield that pops after block/deflecting something, and very few advanced spells without special preparation. His magic is more focused at night, something about the stars helps calm his mind, so he is more capable at night.

Optional: More or less you could think of him as reverse Trixie in terms of attitude.
