That post has the info as we currently know it. While this is quite sad considering the amount of effort that the developers put into the project, it's not something that should be a surprise. After all, the same thing happened to MLP: Online.

Note that in the explanation for MLP Online shutting down, it mentions how Hasbro has to shut down any projects that violate its patents or trademarks or risk losing them. Just think for a moment on what would happen if Hasbro was to run the risk of losing the rights to the characters from their own TV show when fans are creating stuff of this caliber based on those characters.
I know I don't speak for everyone when I say this, but I think this one was for the best just because some kind of order needs to be maintained and if there's any chance of Hasbro losing the rights to their characters, then action needs to be taken.
