Name: Mercury Racer

Gender: Female
Description: Mercury is light silver in color and slightly taller than the average pony (but not so much that she looks out of proportion). Her mane and tail are midnight blue with thick pale lavender streaks in them. She has bright gold eyes that are warm and friendly.
Personality: Mercury is a laidback pony with a great sense of humor. She is open and friendly with everypony she meets and loves to put a smile on other's faces. She is soft spoken, but don't let that fool you! She can have a very nasty temper. But it takes ALOT to get her there. She would much rather chat, laugh, and enjoy another's company. She can be a bit standoffish at first, but it doesn't take her long to warm up to somepony new.
Bio: Mercury grew up in Cloudsdale as most pegasi do. Her parents had good careers and took good care of her and her little sister, Moon Shimmer. Her mother worked in the rainbow factory mixing the spectra while her father worked as a tutor for astrology for the elementary schools around Equestria. As a filly, Mercury would often accompany her father on star gazing nights, learning about the constellations and myths that told their stories. She became fascinated by one in particular. She asked her father one night what the fast moving tiny red star was. He looked over from his telescope and found the star in question. He told her the story of Mercury, the messenger star. He said that it was told that Mercury carried everypony's hopes and dreams before they knew what they were. And that, when it was time, the star would drop them over the pony it was meant for.
He turned and asked the little filly if she had any hopes and dreams. Mercury Racer thought about it for a while before replying she hoped one day she could be just as smart as he was. Her father chuckled and kissed her forehead and told her that it seemed the star had already visited her. That night stayed in Mercury's mind as she went through school. She did her best in her studies and found she excelled at astronomy like her father! As she grew, she furthered her tutelage by studying under her father and his colleagues. She was constantly in awe at what she learned.
When she turned 18, Mercury set out to help foals around Equestria to learn about the stars above. She has a keen eye for where the constellations are at any given time of the year, and teaches her students about how to tell what cluster of stars is a constellation and what ones aren't. She also teaches about the stories that go with each one. But her favorite (and the one she found out later was only a bedtime story her father told her) is the story of her namesake, the messenger star, Mercury. She now owns a home in Ponyville and helps out as she can with the schools. She felt it was the best place there is to further her studies as it's not as loud as Manehatten or as bright as Canterlot. She also runs a small telescope repair shop out of her home to help supplement her income when school is out and no one needs a tutor.
Cutie Mark: Small red shooting star
Mercury received her cutiemark not long after that night her father told her the story of Mercury. She was sitting in her window one night after her sister had fallen asleep watching the stars turn overhead. She searched the skies for the small red star she became so quickly fascinated by. After some time, she huffed and was about to give up when she spotted it streaking across the sky. Mercury spread her small wings and looked back at her sister, then back at the door. She knew she would get in trouble, but something was pulling her to follow the star's path. So with a silent flick of her wings, she took off as fast as her wings would carry her. She followed the star for she didn't know how long. She smiled and laughed out loud, doing spins and loop-de-loops as she kept up her pacing. What a thrill! The cool night air whipping her short mane back. The freedom she felt! The trouble she would get in! But is was worth it.
As she watched the small star overhead, something happened. A small sparkling speck fell and landed on her nose. Mercury was so startled she stopped. She crossed her eyes to get a look at the sparkling thing on her face. It winked at her once... Twice... Then winked out. She gasped. Maybe that was what her father had talked about! The star had given her a hope or dream! So Mercury turned and flew back as fast as she could and drove right into bed. She was so excited she couldn't fall asleep. Mercury began to become disheartened. Had her father been wrong? Then she remembered something her father had asked. Did she have any hopes or dreams? Mercury sat up in her cloud sheets and really thought about it. She really did want to be as smart as her father is. But she also wanted to learn more than he knew about the stars. She walked back to the window and looked at the stars again. They all winked and twinkled at her and danced their slow, circular dance across the sky. She loved them all. She wanted to know everything there was to know about them and more. And she wanted to share with others what she had learned so that, maybe someday, she would meet somepony with as much love for them as she did. Mercury knew with all her heart that's what she wanted to do. That was who she was deep in her heart.
Suddenly, Mercury felt a tickle on her flank. She looked back and found a small, red shooting star there! She had gotten her cutiemark! In her excitement, she went and woke her parents to share her wonderful news.
