Picture and/or Description: A white unicorn with a meticulously styled purple mane and tail. She rarely leaves the house without her signature blue eye shadow.

Background: Rarity was born in Ponyville where she has lived all of her life. She still lives with her parents and her little sister, Sweetie Belle. She seems to, at times, resent having to take care of her little sister, but it is clear that she cares deeply about her all the same. Rarity and her parents share very different interests. Her mother and father are both rather backward in their fashion choices, and they speak in an accent more reminiscent of the Midwest United States than Rarity’s mixture of British and American English accents. Despite all of this, they are a loving and united family. Rarity currently owns and operates her own business, Carousel Boutique, where she designs, produces, and sells high end garments. She has also been seen to help decorate the town for festive events.

Personality: Rarity has a flare for the dramatic. Everything that she does or says seems to have an almost unnecessary emotional flair. She has a tendency to get caught up in appearances and she cares deeply about both her own and her friends’ appearances. The only thing that can truly trump her love of beauty is the generosity that she shows to those in need.
Rarity is welcoming of new ponies and she enjoys meeting them. She particularly enjoys the high status parties of Canterlot, but she can enjoy letting her hair down and having fun with her Ponyville friends as well. Sometimes, when these two extremes come into conflict, Rarity may seem to have trouble deciding where she belongs, but her strongest friendships always show up in the end. Among her good friends, she is very open, but always prone to her dramatic moments.

Cutie Mark: Three diamonds. This was acquired during Rarity’s youth when she was designing costumes for a school play. She wasn’t satisfied with the result but couldn’t figure out what to do in order to make the costumes presentable. Suddenly, her horn lit up and began to pull her inexplicably out of town until it led her to a large boulder. She was saddened by this find until a large boom cracked the boulder open and revealed a vein of gems inside. Inspired, Rarity used the gems to finish her costumes and gained her cutie mark as a representation of her ability to find beauty, specifically gemstones, as well as her love of design.

Optional: Rarity has a pet cat, Opalescence, who has a love-hate relationship with her owner like only a cat can. At times, Opalescence is quiet and demure, but Rarity has required the help of Fluttershy in order to calm Opal down at other times.

Rarity also represents the Element of Generosity. She earns this title when, upon seeing a distressed sea monster, she snips off her own tail in order to fix his mustache. As stated previously, her deeply generous nature is one of the only things more dominant than Rarity’s love of beauty. This episode showcases her generous nature as well as her desire to improve the beauty of others. These two themes have gone hand in hand on a number of occasions. The signature event is, of course, when she designed dresses for all of her friends for the Grand Galloping Gala. While making these dresses, she knowingly diminished the quality of the garments – that would be seen by top fashion ponies – by acquiescing to the desires of her friends. Her generous nature would not allow her to overrule a friend’s request, regardless of the result.
As a unicorn, Rarity has a basic control of magic that she uses for manipulating everyday items as well as enabling activities in her shop that would be difficult with hooves (Cutting with scissors, pinning fabrics, sewing, etc). Her special talent, however, is manifested in her extremely well developed ability to find gems wherever they might be. She uses this ability in order to find gemstones with which she adds a special flare to her designs.
