My all-time favorite is an anime by the name of 'Berserk'. It was short-lived as it only ran for one season, but it was damn good.
As for my current favorite, that would be 'The Walking Dead'. The cliffhangers at the end of each episode are great, the characters are abstractly unique from one-another, and the twists/unexpected nature of the show make it quite interesting.
