So, as you may have seen in the shoutbox sticky, we now have a Discord server. Discord is going to be replacing Skype as the forum's semi-official messaging system. You can continue to use Skype if you really want, but you'll be unable to reach many of the staff and users now, because let's be honest, no one wants to use multiple messaging systems.
Why the switch?
Simple: Microsoft has fucked Skype up. Besides how the UI keeps getting uglier, the server and client are so messed up that you can't even message people correctly. If someone's on a different version than you, the messages might not go through. In group chats? The messages won't appear until someone else messages, and sometimes not even then. Some of our rooms have had day-long blackouts, and some users have been unable to participate for months at a time. Think the messaging has gotten bad? Voice and video chat are far worse, randomly dropping or muting people, not allowing people access to calls (which happens A LOT), and more.
Basically, Microsoft's ruined Skype, and we've given up on it. The twins @Twitch-A-Rise!~; and @Switch-A-Shine!; have already uninstalled it, and they won't be using it from this point forward. So, I've made the executive decision to switch.
There were really two viable alternatives, Tox and Discord. After trying both, I can say that Tox is nice for end-to-end encryption, but Discord is better in a lot more ways: You can use it in-game using the overlay, which was always a big problem with Skype for me. Group organisation and roles is insanely better. You can use it in a browser and setup couldn't be easier. You can install themes, rather than using new Skype's one shitty look. Voice calls aren't hosted by anyone, won't drop, and of course the big kicker: EVERYONE CAN ACTUALLY JOIN THEM. There's also no errors when sending group messages. The lists goes on and on, and they're still adding new features. Once you give it a chance, you'll learn to enjoy it as much as our staff and other users do.
