Name: Yown Nights

Species: Unicorn

Approximate age: 25

Picture and/or Description: Yown is a blue unicorn with a dark grey mane and tail. His mane is curly, but he has obviously made an attempt to straighten it, resulting in a bizarre style. In contrast, he has made no attempt to straighten his tail, which looks poofy and curled when uncut. He does, however, keep his tail cut as short as he can have it, almost no tail at all. He has lighter grey highlights near the ends of his mane, but these too are somewhat messy, with the result looking like he has merely dipped his mane in a bucket of light grey paint. The rest of his body varies between shades of blue, with his head and upper body being a lighter shade than his flank and lower body, and his hooves being consistently a darker shade of blue. His horn is shielded by a piece of plastic which fits over the top securely, a choice he made himself to avoid causing damage. This also, however, stifles his magical ability considerably, limiting his ability to standard levitation spells. He is of normal height and build.

Personality: Yown is a very friendly pony, or at least comes across as such. He will always start conversations when he can, and is more than happy to help somepony he is friends with. He's also very flirty, with both males and females, but has no real sexual interest in anything but his own hoof. Yown has an arrogant side, and will often show off his ability to manipulate light by walking into a room and turning off the lights suddenly and somewhat dramatically with his horn. After this initial first impression has been made, however, he rarely shows off and is more honest about his abilities.

Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is of three flames in a triangle shape, representing his ability to manipulate light. He can generate light with his horn, or use his magic to manipulate other sources of light, such as lamps or fire. He discovered his special talent around the age of eight when playing around near a bonfire one night, when he jokingly attempted to make the flames grow. They did, and he caught on fire rather humorously. Thankfully, he stopped, dropped and rolled and put out the fire without any major injuries, and upon doing so noticed his cutie mark. At first, he thought it was just manipulation of fire, before realizing he could make the lamps in his home brighter when he was trying to read.

His abilities of manipulating light and fire are to a relatively normal extent. He could, for example, put out a small house fire with enough effort, but anything more than that and he would struggle. And, for example, he could light a fire with his magic, and keep it fueled, but he couldn't light a fire on a wet surface. His magic does not defy the way fire operates in that sense. Nor could he light a fire in a vacuum or where there is no oxygen.

Unfortunately, there are some issues in your OC that we'd have to see addressed before we could allow you into the RP.

The first is his adoption. A formalized system of adoption would suggest the presence of a non negligible number of orphans in Equestria, something that we don't allow in the RP. The entire circumstances of his early life seem only meant to set him apart and make him an "other", something that we also try to avoid in OC backgrounds. His burning down of his family's home also serves only to provide some strange pointless but readily accessed "tragedy" into the background. Unfortunately, between those two things, pretty much the entirety of the background becomes moot.

His talent is fine, but I'm curious about the breadth of his abilities. If you could explain his limits regarding control over fire, that'd be great.
