Why on earth is anybody surprised by this? Surely we haven't forgotten what happened last gen with the 360 (what was it, a ~60% failure rate on the first batch?). Buying consoles (or indeed certain games, and I mention no names *GTA V*) on launch is a bloody daft thing to do, between the rather sparse launch lineup and the fact that they, you know, don't work.
Just wait until everything is fixed before dropping money on something like that, you've been waiting for years for a new console gen, you can wait another month or so, surely?
