riddle 61:
8-6 = 2
8+6 = 2
7+6 = ?
no typos were made.
No, actually. There's this trick involving the number of letters in the words for numbers…I saw "eight - six = 2" and 5 (the number of letters in "eight) minus three (the number of letters in "six") is two; I figured they were all subtraction like that and the plus or minus symbols were irrelevant, e.g. 7+6 would be "seven - six" (or 5-3), which also happens to be two. Overthinking it, I guess.
It's a good riddle, though! :giggle:
Can you just PM me the explanation? I got the answer, but all my explanations were wrong, and that's more frustrating than…almost anything! I'll never think of it myself, and I promise I won't post it here and I'll leave it to somepony else to figure out. Please?
Attention, everypony: If one of you figures out why the answer to riddle 61 is "1", please @-mention me when you post it so I'll know. Thank you.
@Wandergirl108
This may be totally wrong buuuut
8-6=2
8+6=2
they can be rearranged to become
8-2=6
2+6=8
Following on from this 7+6=1 can be rearranged to make 1+6=7
The partner to it would be 7-6=1 which becomes 7-1=6
One. Because if take the difference between 8 and 6 you get two. For 7 and 6 that's 1.
EDIT: Didn't see Brae's post yet. :facehoof:
Guess I'll go back to thinking.
mmh indeed @Mr.Tex
ok since @Wandergirl108 clearly likes math so much
